Earning web traffic the old fashioned way

For many businesses, launching a website feels like the finish line.  You’ve worked hard to have a final product and you’re excited to move on to other things. Unfortunately, there is no simple finish line for web success.  It’s important to celebrate a website launch, but the true test of your website is how well it works for you in the long run (how many new customers, donors, or volunteers it brings in, how much you grow your email list, how many new leads you’ve gotten).  Having a site that works for you and makes you money doesn’t just happen on its own.  What was true for Smith Barney in 1986 in the above video (go to the 20 second mark) is true for keeping your website up to date now.  Old fashioned hard work pays off, even if the tools and strategies you must learn to use in the cutting edge of the web are far from old-fashioned.

A new look for UnionStreetMedia.com

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably noticed the change already.  Things have been spruced up around here.  We have taken our own advice and you are now looking at a revamped and redesigned Union Street Media website.  Why?  As we advise all of our clients to do, we took a good hard look at our business goals and used that as a starting point to make sure that our website conveyed the overall strategy behind what we do for our clients’ websites – generate traffic, engage site visitors and convert visitors into customers – through fresh, engaging content, navigation and visual aids.

Google Query Suggest Takes a Shot at Realtors

I discovered this affront to the Real Estate profession recently, as I was gathering material for an upcoming presentation on using video to increase online user engagement.

One of the things that I like to do in the beginning of my presentations is define a baseline of interaction. As a website owner, you know where you want people to end up when they visit your site. (If you don’t, then stop paying your hosting fees!) But before you can effectively drive people toward that goal, you need to figure out what they are thinking when they arrive: What are they looking for? What are they not looking for?

Lessons from the Web: Finding Familiar Ground in Home Improvement

We’ve all heard the old cliché “Write what you know.”  I decided to take a different approach with this article, and address something I very recently learned and tie it into something I know well.   As it turns out, remodeling a kitchen isn’t so different from building a new website.

Not long ago my husband and I decided to do a complete kitchen overhaul in preparation for putting our condo on the market.  Out with the old tiling, the outdated cabinets, the stained countertops.  It was time to make serious updates.  Looking back, I see that I was actually in my element in this new experience.  Let me demonstrate….

Breaking Down the Barriers to real estate sales: be yourself online

Real estate websites should be so much more than MLS information and a contact form. An effective real estate website should not only sell the services of the office or agent, it should sell their personality and their expertise in their market area.

To illustrate this, let’s imagine a person is looking to buy a property in your market area but does not have a particular affinity to any office. This person visits two different websites in their search process. Each of these websites is built on the same web platform, using the same basic functionality and layout. If the structure and functionality are all identical, the element that will distinguish one site from another is the portrayal of the agent’s personality, experience and knowledge of the real estate market. By giving people more information, you give them more opportunities to connect with you on a personal level.

Eve Thompson Logo

Eve Thompson is a Reston, VA, realtor who has been utilizing our Internet Marketing services for some time. Eve made the decision to have Union Street Media build a brand new website that reflects the “new urban” appeal of Reston. Our Internet Marketing team continues to work with Eve on her online marketing efforts through the RRR program.

Burlington Tennis Club Logo

The Burlington Tennis Club is a member-owned, non-profit recreational club located in Chittenden County, VT. They came to Union Street Media wanting to keep up with the times, and attract younger members with a cleaner, better designed website. Their goal was to shift their advertising focus from traditional methods to include more digital marketing.

Brunswick School Logo

Located in Greenwich, CT, Brunswick School is a college preparatory day school for boys in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12. Brunswick needed a fresh, new design for their site that provided easier navigation for potential students, their parents, and alumni. Union Street Media gave them the functionality they desired in a professional and aesthetically pleasing package.

Bullrock Corporation LogoBullrock Corporation has been in construction management and real estate development since the early 1980s, and in 2000 they became involved in the senior living business. Becker Cabinetmaker Inc.

ski_home_logoAll of the agents at Ski Home Realty are avid skiers and snowboarders, making them experts in Mount Snow region real estate. They needed a fresh new design and content to reflect their expertise. From their office at the base of Mt. The Green Castle Estate House is an intimate vacation villa on a remarkably beautiful and historic plantation in the Jamaican countryside. Green Castle brings together diverse stakeholders that are committed to a positive future. Union Street Media gave this Burlington cultural center a new design so web surfers can easily find out more about the various stores, restaurants, and events that make Church Street such a downtown hot spot.
